Os Esplendores do Oriente (The Splendours of East)
This work, written in 2011, is Scene VIII of the opera “Serafim Ponte Grande” (based on the book by Oswald de Andrade) In this scene, which happens near the end(s), the “hero” Serafim is in love with two “girls d'au jour d'oui” whom he meets in Paris: Caridad-Claridad and Pafuncheta. These girls, who are in fact lovers, fly to the East, and he goes after them, traveling through Greece, Turkey, Palestine, and finally Egypt, where, after an insistent flirting, Serafim gets a night with Caridad-Claridad – just to leave her (still asleep) in the following morning, bored and with his tragicomic fate(s) defined(s). “Os Esplendores do Oriente” (The Splendors of East) is an ironic scene written with the mannerisms of 19th century books. This score is the concert version of this work.
The premiere happened in LIŠKIAVA, Lithuania, on may 20th 2012, by the Lithuanian Oboe Quintet: Robertas Beinaris (oboe, Artistic Director), Tomas Bieliauskas (oboe), Eugenijus Paškevičius (oboe d’amore), Petras Kuraitis (english horn), Arūnas Zujus (bassoon) Further performance: october 15th 2012, Nutshuis, Den Haag, Netherlands. |
